Reversible Mink Short Coat

This little gem was another donation. A find from a Main thrift shop and sent to me to deconstruct and reconstruct. I like to run stripes, that are unrelated to fur, into the new designs. This was the precursor to the Pamela reversible mink.

I acquired an early 20th century textile piece from Ghana. Ghanaian men wore wraps made of hand woven strips put together to create long and narrow wraps. Separating the strips from the wrap gave me a gorgeous color and textural element to add to the mink’s new design. The collar is an added piece of lamb skin and fur in that same rich chocolate color. This piece can be worn on either side, and belted or loose. It is still in my collection.
